This 5-week series is geared towards beginner trail runners who have little to no experience in the trails or running off-road, but can run at least three miles (on the road) comfortably. Each week we will have a different focus and will explore a new part of the parks and learn new trails. We will be talking about trail running, in general, and explaining some of the differences between road running and trail running.
**See your Fitvil account for detailed and updated location info!
Week 1: Introduction (meet & greet at Fleet Feet Sports PDX - Portland). After learning about some essential pieces of gear, we will get to know each other quickly and then head out for our first intro run.
Week 2: From the start of the Birch Trail at NW 53rd Ave, we will explore a new section of the forest. Aside from learning a new area, we will be discussing different access points into the park, map reading, Wildwood Trail markers, etc.
Week 3: From a new location meeting point at the top of Dogwood Trail at NW 53rd Ave, we will explore a new section of the forest picking up where we left off from week 2, discussing flora/fauna of Forest Park and the Forest Park Conservancy.
Week 4: From a new location meeting point in Forest Park (NW 53rd Ave and Wildwood Trail), we will explore a new section of the forest, & we will stop at a point in the run to do a mini Functional Fitness class that targets some of the necessary muscles needed more-so in trail running, and we will discuss how to stay balanced and injury-free.
Week 5: For our final class, we will meet at the Pittock Mansion parking lot. We'll do a final "wrap up-tie-it-all-together-run" in Forest Park recapping what we've learned!
Join us for a bonus workout in "Week 6" where we'll bring together all classes for a group run, gear demo, and party at the Portland store!
