This 5-week series focuses on the different aspects of running hills and trails: ascending, descending, navigating technical trails, and “power hiking” (as well as learning some tricks of the trade from your experienced instructors!). This series is more technique-oriented and higher intensity. Sessions take place at the same time as the Beginner class, but will head off to tackle some of Portland’s biggest hills! This series is for people that have at least one year experience running trails and can run five miles comfortably.
**See your Fitvil account for detailed and updated location info!
Week 1: Intro & “Power hiking” - get to know each other. We will give a brief overview of the class, discuss some essential pieces of gear (especially for night running) and then head out to the first location! Meet at the Portland store.
Week 2: Uphill Running - tips and techniques on the mechanics of uphill running while practicing on hills from the top of Birch Trail off NW 53rd.
Week 3: Downhill running - starting at the top of Dogwood Trail of NW 53rd, we will practice on some nice long downhills, offering tips/techniques on running efficiently and safely.
Week 4: Technical trails - meet at where NW 53rd meets the Wildwood Trail. We will work on some footwork drills and then practice that fancy footwork on some of the technical terrain.
Week 5: For our final class, we will meet at the Pittock Mansion parking lot. We'll do a final "wrap up-tie-it-all-together-run" in Forest Park recapping what we've learned!
Join us for a bonus workout in "Week 6" where we'll bring together all classes for a group run, gear demo, and party at the Portland store!
